At almost 1 metre across, the unseen length being 2 metres to the ground, this is a large reclaimed and resurfaced slab of nineteenth century Cumbrian slate.
The initial "S" of "Sacred" is copied from an eighteenth century headstone in the same graveyard. The rest of the lettering takes its inspiration from Herman Zapf's early hand-drawn development of his now celebrated letterform, Civilite, which I've adapted to compliment the style of that initial "S".
