A formal design for a formal context: a new extension
to an old parish church. Designed to be installed on an
internal wall between two windows, the semi-circular cavetto
corners compliment architectural details in the parish
room, and the satisfying root-5 rectangle proportions
of the windows. But because the plaque receives no direct
sunlight, the lettering doesn’t have the benefit
of a strong shadow; hence the letters are tinted in terracotta.
This colour was chosen to accord with the painted lettering
of the very fine “Driver Memorials” in the
main body of the church. They were cut in the late 1920’s.
It’s good to be a part of this church’s long
lettering tradition.
