Bernard ran my local hardware store, so I was shocked by his death, but honored to be asked to carve his headstone. He was a strong rugged man, so a rugged stone was called for. I began the design by having the lettering follow the diagonal of the top of this natural stone; but, when his wife asked me to design-in her own name for later, the diagonals all began to look to busy. What remains of that 30 degree orientation is the base-line of the letters in the vertical 'Remember with love'. The daffodils are cushion-carved into the uneven face.
