Both husband and wife were keen anglers so, when Mary died, it seemed
fitting that a headstone which would eventually commemorate them both should
reflect this common interest. The leaping trout gives movement to the whole
design around which the top portion revolves. Below, the bullrushes lend an
air of tranquillity and leave space for a second inscription.
